Ian & Helen Calman

Helen and I have been married for 43 years, we are 65 and 68 respectively. For the last 10 years, we have had the lease for Abode on Courtenay Motor Inn, New Plymouth. During that time we have survived Covid, closing of oil exploration, economic turbulence and frequent closures of the Awakino Gorge. I run the business side, strip rooms etc when needed. Helen is involved in the daily running of the motel and assists housekeepers as required. The cleanliness, (which you can see from our reviews is a major item of distinction), the standard is all hers.

We are very hands on operators – the care and enjoyment of our guests as well as the happiness of our staff are paramount to us.
